But does this all electric hypercar still offer the pure, instinctive driving experience that Lotus is known for? At the Hethel test track, Natan Tazelaar got behind the wheel hoping to find the answer.
Gavin Kershaw is Director of Attributes and Product Integrity, and in that role he is ultimately responsible for the driving dynamics of every Lotus. His arrival at the track is completely silent, but far from inconspicuous. The Evija is already a spectacular presence, but that effect is heightened further by the iridescent finish of its paintwork. In the colour called Violaceous, it shifts from blue purple to rust orange depending on the light. Normally I am not a fan of these schizophrenic paint jobs, but in this case the dynamic two-tone effect accentuates the lines, curves, and especially the large openings in the flanks that feed into the Venturi tunnels. Combined with the gritty metallic sparkle reminiscent of 1980s fairground bumper carts, it makes the overall appearance even more dramatic. The Evija is certainly no wallflower.
